Hello! Kia Ora! Malo e lelei! Talofa! Fakaalofa!Greetings to Everyone at the Beginning of 2014!!!!!
Hi from Room 1
Mrs Kelly and Mrs Greenham are sharing the teaching in Room 1 as well as taking Reading Recovery. We are excited to be taking such a bright, bubbly group of Year 1 and Year 2’s. We have all, now happily, settled in and getting into our routines.
The children
are taking home a reader each night. All
readers stay in the reading bag for the week then they are taken out each
Monday. That will give you a chance to re-read on the weekend especially if you
have had a busy week. It gives you a chance to catch-up with your child and
re-read over books. It is important for children to have a book bag and bring this to school each day. Children
must have a bag to take their books and notices home. The reading
log will be accompanying the nightly reader for you to sign. This is also
looked at by the teacher each day and stickers given for completion.
Most of us have our stationery, therefore we will be starting in our books altogether for the different
subjects. It is beneficial for the class, as a whole, to begin together, in
each book so the children can learn the layout for each subject. If there is any problem with purchasing the stationery please contact the office or the Principal.
The children
will also bring home a spelling notebook. In this notebook will be five words
which your child needs to be able to read. Each Monday a new set of five words
will be given. We will check to see that the children can read these words.
Your child only needs to be able to read the word, but if you wish to help them
spell it that would be wonderful.
We will have
a letter sound for each week. Our sound for the week beginning 17th
February is Jj. It would be helpful if your child could bring along something
starting with that letter sound for our letter display. Each week will be a new
letter.
Swimming has
started with many children participating. Please remember to put the children’s
swimming togs and towel in a plastic bag each day as this is part of the
changing routine for them, to keep their clothes together.
Our Inquiry
Topic for the Term is based on the exciting study of New Zealand Native Bush
and Vegetation. We will visit a native bush area during the term.
The Life Education Caravan will be here in
Week 5 with children attending interesting displays, visits and lessons. The
class will be doing follow-up studies on the topics covered.
We will
continue to have school assemblies every second week starting on the the 14th
February. The Junior School Assembly will be on the alternative week, beginning
on the 21st February. You are welcome to attend these. Extra
information is given in the Weekly Newsletter and the awards for children are
announced at these assemblies.
If we can
help you with anything please feel free
contact Mrs Greenham and Mrs Kelly.
